Top of the Hill Wedding | Chapel Hill
Oh happy day! A wedding day. Leslie Mills, a very dear and talented wedding photographer friend of mine, and Mahlon, our lighting assistant, headed to Chapel Hill early one Sunday morning with NO rain after many weeks of endless wetness. We were on our way to photograph Allyson and Travis’ wedding ceremony in the Great Room at the new and very popular Top of the Hill, centrally located, downtown (well uptown, really) in Chapel Hill. It was one of those calm and sleepy Sunday mornings (a post-game day) on a cloudy, with clear Carolina Blue patches, kind-of-day!
Chapel Hill is at its finest on one of these rare days! And Allyson and Travis were ready for it!
These former UNC students wanted to come back “home” (working in both DC and Florida) to get married and share this blessed celebration with friends and family who came from as far as California. They chose Elana Walker of Savoir Faire, Event Planning & Management to help them ease the pieces together for a long distance wedding plan.
Chapel Hill’s Top of the Hill was where they chose for their wedding ceremony and reception. And they incorporated extra time to stroll on the UNC Campus as a newly married couple, with family, friends and the bridal party, who were also former graduates. I am a Tarheel too (where I first took many photography classes – Physics) and dreamed many a day about getting married near campus and wandering romantically in this lovely historic and scenic place with my groom. We all had a blast together and took some fabulous images to tell this couple’s special story!
Our Ring Bearer for the day was smiles all day long and his sister too did an excellent job being cute and adorable with her big brother as our Flower Girl.

And University Florist always rocks the prettiest collection of flowers for every Chapel Hill Wedding!
Our wedding couples love classic Black and White photography and some of our more traditional or candid wedding images are captured with the ever timeless Black and White print in mind. Allyson was one of those brides who always looks elegant!
After hair and makeup it was time to get to Top of the Hill for the Chapel Hill wedding ceremony. We love Chapel Hill (and Raleigh) weddings!
Allyson really wanted to see Travis’ first reaction to her walking down the aisle. Travis was a happy camper!

Allyson and Travis choreographed a Chapel Hill wedding adventure for their family and friends while Top of the Hill flipped the ceremony in the Great Room to become the dining hall and reception area. After the ceremony we all headed down to outside the Arboretum for our family pictures and then off to the Old Well with the Bridal Party and the front of South Hall for our couple portraits. There was GREAT light everywhere. And everyone had a great time walking downtown mid-day. It was like in our small home town when we would all drive around the square over and over honking wildly on our way to the wedding reception….this was a mini parade on foot! How fun!

Allyson made some fine choices and selected Sugarland in Chapel Hill to bake and decorate her wedding cake. Carolina Blue must be pre-mixed and on each shelf at this particular bakery. We have some might proud Carolina wedding couples in Chapel Hill. Just down the street a few storefronts from Top of the Hill Sugarland has a gorgeous Franklin Street location. We almost stopped at their super cute ice cream tables and chairs for a picture! Next time we will plan it in. Darn good good cake!

Our lovely couple decided to stay at the ever-elegant and traditional Carolina Inn for their first night together as a married Allyson and Travis unit. The skies cleared and sun came out for this final stroll and it was magical. What a blessed couple and family. We loved working with everyone and can’t wait to design another lovely wedding story!
So many great images, this was a tough post to limit to 12-20 “sneak peeks”….many more images to post again later in another post. Be sure to view more images under “Clients” in a few days for the full set to view/order online.
We thank you Allyson and Travis for sharing this most unique and special day with us. And we look forward to many more visits with you on your visits back down South with perhaps a blooming family (hey, let’s continue to stroll campus for family portraits over the years). We want to wish you both great love!
